Maija Koppinen is a Finnish-Australian Costume and Textile Designer based in Dublin. She has also worked in Finland for various stage & screen productions.
In 2023, Maija graduated with a MFA in Stage Design from The Lir Academy, Trinity College Dublin. Maija previously graduated in 2020 from Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in Finland, where she completed a BA in Design, majoring in Textile Design. Her studies included an exchange semester at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia in 2019. Some of her earliest studies are in Fashion and Textiles, where she graduated in 2013 from Stadin AO, Helsinki Vocational College in Finland.
She has experience in designing, making, renting, modifying and repairing costumes, accessories, props and sets. Her previous studies and work experience have given her a good knowledge of fabrics as well as sewing and material handling methods to achieve special effects.
Maija’s passion lies in all aspects related to costumes, not only the design and production of clothes and textiles, but also how a costume assists the performers to participate in their role, and how they help set the tone and style to bring the script to life. She wants to further develop her skills and apply them to create innovative costumes in a sustainable way.
